Five years ago this week, myself & seven friends entered Mountjoy Prison for the first of three shows performing the music of Johnny Cash. These shows were part of a national prison tour we performed which involved 18 shows in 11 prisons.
Myself and my very own June Carter (Louise O’Reilly) performed and were interviewed on Ireland AM on the morning of the show and went busking on Grafton Street in between the TV appearance and the gig.
On arrival at Mountjoy, we were advised that the performance was planned to be kept quiet and the prisoners were not to be given prior notice. The prisons Governor then advised us that this plan went out the window when we went on live TV to discuss the gig. Oops!!
